HitTail Review: Hits the Longtail SEO Sweet Spot

Drum roll please, and enter to the stage HitTail.

I probably don’t need to be that dramatic, but I do love when a bit of kit works! It’s a rare thing when a niche service does the one thing it does, well. That’s HitTail. Anyway, enough of the waffle. Let me explain why HitTail hits the SEO sweet spot, in this, my HitTail review.

HitTail, what is it?

Don’t be too concerned if you don’t know too much about HitTail as I will give you the lowdown.

HitTail is a service from The Numa Group. They’re the people who also created Drip (marketing automation software).

So, HitTail is a premium service that helps you identify and helps you to target organic longtail keywords. It will focus on the most promising untapped organic keywords in your existing traffic. By knowing what to target and what is promising you can focus your optimisation work.

What are longtail keywords?

The vast majority of searches on Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines are longer than 3 words. Something like 90%+ of all searches made online contain more than 3 words. A good example is when someone types a question into Google, such as:

“How many eggs can a cockerel lay?”

(PS. None, zero, nada, is the answer! Only female hens lay eggs, not male cockerels.)

Anyways, back to longtail keywords. Yes, so the vast majority of people do searches of more than 3 words.

On the flip side, the vast majority of SEO work is done to target keyword phrases that are 3 words or less.

This means that there is huge potential to bring in lots of longtail organic traffic.

But why isn’t everyone doing this?

Finding, measuring and targeting phrases that are 3 words or less is easy. All the hard work is done by the likes of Google using Adwords Keyword Planner tool.

With longtail keyword phrases is that very few are the same and so knowing what to target can be a pain when doing this manually.

Enter HitTail.

HitTail does all the heavy lifting when it comes to help you to find, measure and target these longtail keywords.

Like a bit of magic, all you need to do is write and optimise. Job done.

Let’s talk money.

HitTail Pricing

Ok, so HitTail comes in four plans: Personal, Pro, Business, and Agency.

As you can see below, it’s a standard tier pricing setup. With the cheapest plan, Personal, costing $9.95 per month (which is about £6-7). You get with this plan a limited but still useful bit of kit. With 200 monthly keywords (that’s the major bit we care about anyways).

The next plan starts at $19.95 per mont (£12-£13) which is the Pro plan and gives you 500 monthly keywords.

Basically, with the keywords, depending on how popular your site is or how many sites you add you will need need more and more capacity when it comes to the monthly keyword allowance.

Those two plans will do the vast majority of people while the other two offer more monthly keyword capacity and increased prices.

I recommend the Pro plan.

Now you know how much it costs and what you get for that money. Let’s look at how HitTail actually works.

How does HitTail work?

Ok, so simply you add HitTail to your Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) account and it automatically starts syncing those keywords. It works its magic on the existing data and any new data that comes in over time to find you the most promising targets for longtail SEO.

Adding New Sites

All HitTail plans include unlimited domains. Meaning you can add as many of your or even client sites to HitTail, each have their own unique view so it’s easy to switch between them and the data does not get confused.

That’s a great, and often overlooked, feature that will make the life easier of anyone with multiple sites on HitTail.

To add a new site you just click ‘Add a Site’, enter the domain, and then head over to Google Webmaster Tools and add ‘[email protected]’ as a ‘Restricted’ user.

Should you be using HitTail?

If you run a website, a blog or client sites where you need to maximise the number of visitors whether that’s generally or based on specific niches then you need to be capitalising on the 90%+ of longtail searches that are made.

To do that, you need HitTail. It’s that simple really.

Need more traffic? You need HitTail. It hits the SEO sweet spot.

Longtail Keyword Top Tip

If you are stuck for how to add long tail keywords to existing articles then I would suggest doing an on page FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) section. It works wonders. Here is my example below.
