A little routine you can use the Powerbar 2 to get your first Pull Up & Chin Up

If you’re a complete beginner to pull-ups and chin-ups then you may be a little nervous of trying to work on building up to your first one in the gym or around other people. I know I was.

When I first bought my Powerbar 2 I decided to work hard to get my first pull up.

So I got a chair, placed the chair just off-centre underneath the Powerbar 2, and attempted to do pull up negatives. A pull up negative, is just standing on the chair, holding yourself up against the bar (in the top position of a pull up) then slowly lower yourself down to the ground. Then you repeat, stand back on the chair, hold yourself in the top position of a pull-up and slowly lower yourself down.

Repeat this regularly until you can do 10 negatives in a row using your Powerbar 2. Once you have 1 set of 10 reps then build up to multiple sets of 10 reps.

A pull up negative is considered to be one of the better ways to build towards your first bodyweight pull up.

Once you’re able to do 3 sets of 10 reps of negative pull-ups regularly, you’re well on your way to getting your first full bodyweight pull-up.

FAQs

Answers to your questions

Here are some answers to questions I get asked most about from this article, Powerbar 2 Review – Is this the ultimate home pull up bar?. I'll try my best to answer any relevant questions that get sent to me when I can. If you have any questions just drop them in the comments below.

How do you set up the Powerbar 2?

I've owned other at home pull up bars and they all required screwing together bits of metal. Actually talking of that, another brand pull up bar I bought, I actually busted a screw on the bar and had to find a unique screw to replace it. Which sucked! The Powerbar 2 just folds out and hooks on to your door, no assembly required. So put that screwdriver away!

How much weight can it hold?

Max weight I tested it at was 110kg / 242 lbs. The manufactures say it supports up to 20 stone and max tested up to 30 stone (which is how much the strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, known as Thor, weighs!)

Have you reviewed other pull up bars? Or is the Powerbar 2 review the only one?

This is my only one. I only review products and services I use and trust. This Powerbar 2 review is genuine and I have bought 3. 1 for myself and 2 for friends.

Did Innovation Fitness create the Powerbar 2 or are they are copy cat company?

Yes, Innovation Fitness did create and invent the Powerbar 2 12 years ago. It's a tried and tested home pull-up and chin-up bar.

Where can I buy a Innovation Fitness Powerbar 2?

You can buy a Powerbar 2 online at Amazon. It's affordable with good delivery options. Got to love Amazon for its convenience.

Will this pull up bar damage my doorframe?

From my experience, no. It actually doesn't put weight on the door frame but transfers your bodyweight into the wall. It doesn't hang the weight off the doorframe.

Does it move when you do pull ups and chin ups?

At my heaviest, around 18stone, the Powerbar 2 didn't budge an inch when I was learning to do pull ups. Now I weigh 80kg, it still doesn't budge when I am banging out rep after rep, set after set. It's solid.

Is the Powerbar 2 good for beginners?

I think so, yes. If you're on the heavier side or a complete beginner then doing 'negative' reps using a chair is a great starting point. Don't be too eager to do as many reps as you can when you first get it otherwise you'll have some serious DOMs the next day!

  1. What depth of door frame does this fit, the depth of mine including the picture rail the Powerbar2 will rest on is 18.5 cm. Would the dimensions of the Powerbar2 fit my door frame depth?
