WPEngine Review: Can WPEngine Make Your WordPress Site Unstoppable?
Yes! Yes, it can. WPEngine can make your WordPress website unstoppable!
That’s the super short, cut to the chase answer. I know nobody really likes to read long reviews, you just want a nod from some who is independent, who has been a long time customer of WPEngine, and knows the service inside out.
Well, that’d be me.
My company swears by WPEngine and we refer all of our customers to WPEngine if they want a superfast foundation for their WordPress website.
WPEngine is a premium WordPress product so it’s not the cheapest hosting available. For our customers that want a solid foundation (just not all the bells and whistles) then we refer them to Tsohost which is our second favourite UK based web hosting company and one that we have used for years and years and years.
My site (this one you are one!) is hosted on WPEngine. Using their free CDN and a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate.
Ok, if you have read this far then you actually want to read an in-depth review of WPEngine and why you might be persuaded to purchase this service instead of the many WordPress hosting services out there.
WPEngine is Managed WordPress Hosting
Managed WordPress hosting is one of the many types of hosting available on the market. In a nutshell, there are…
- Shared Web Hosting
- Reseller Web Hosting
- Cloud Based Web Hosting
- Virtual Private Server
- Dedicated Web Server
- Colocation Web Hosting
- Self Service Web Hosting
- Managed WordPress Hosting
I won’t bother going into all the types of hosting but I will explain Managed WordPress Hosting.
So, Managed WordPress Hosting. Is WordPress Hosting which is optimised, streamlined, and looked after by people who know WordPress, who know web servers, and how WordPress can be sup’d up by tweaking stuff in the backend.
Web servers – that’s not something I can claim any expertise on. At all.
So, that’s why WPEngine is great for businesses, web designers, agencies, etc, as they can have all of the benefits of tuned web servers and WordPress without the know-how.
For example, Digital Ocean is a great example of top notch hosting, but unless you know servers and command-line code inside and out, it’s not a realistic option.
Whereas WPEngine, yes it’s pricier than Digital Ocean, but you pay for that expertise and much much more.
What else does WPEngine include?
So, if Managed WordPress Hosting doesn’t make you want to stick your hand in your pocket, then lucky that there is more to WPEngine than just that.
Depending on the plan you select it can include:
- Free SSL Certificates: An SSL is needed for security (and is a Google ranking signal)
- Free CDN: A CDN is needed for superfast image delivery
- Free Staging Environment: If you do anything with design or development this is a must
- Free Automated Migrations: Moving your site to WPEngine is a breeze with this plugin
- Free 24/7 Support: Me and support have a rapport now that I use them so much (sorry!)
- Free Virus Checking: If there is something dodgy with your site, WPEngine support can help
- Easy Multisite Setup: For anyone needing WordPress multisite, WPEngine makes this super easy
